TYPES OF PONDS FOR FISH CULTURE
Fish culture ponds differ in size and depth depending on their functions:
(key word:ha=hectare)
- NURSERY PONDS: They are usually about 0.02-0.05ha. The water is usually about 1m deep.
- REARING PONDS: They are usually larger than a nursery pond. Water is about 1.5-2.0m deep. Nursery and rearing ponds are seasonal.
- STOCKING PONDS:They are much larger,0.2-2.0ha.It should be 2.0-3.5m deep. This pond might be perennial or seasonal.
- MARKETING PONDS: They are small but quite deep;they are used to keep fish caught from a stocking pond for sale,at short notice. Usually 0.05-0.10ha in size, water level is 3-4m in dry seasons.
- BROODSTOCK PONDS: They are usually 0.2-0.4ha. They are perennial and have a water depth of 2m in dry season.
- QUARANTINE PONDS: Fish are brought in from outside and placed in this pond-0.02ha,1.5m deep. This pond serves to verify that fish are not infected and if they are, treat diseased fish from other ponds here.

still,DREAM!
TAKE THIS WITH YOU
"Some men see things as they are and say why- I DREAM things things that never were and say why not" - GEORGE BERNARD SHAW

LIVE YOUR DREAM
AM BACK
Hello, everyone. Glad to be back. First,i will like to ask or beg Nigeria's network providers to make network available for use.(MTN,GLO).
How are you all doing? I am sorry for the short absence.
Second,i will like to say this: this blog was created to fulfil a dream-teaching;to educate. Every other dream comes secondary. I'd like to be able to say that this blog of mine educated this person, and that person, and those people. That is enough satisfaction as any one can get. I get companies to advertise here as time goes on, fine. I don't,all well.
Third, i will like to appreciate all those who spent and still do spend precious time to read my blog(write ups for motivation, and to let the world know more than enough about my career-fisheries/aquaculture).

Protesters Storm NLC Headquarters Over Failed Housing Scheme
Subscribers to the Nigeria Labour Congress housing scheme have given the Labour movement three weeks to refund their money which they paid into an account to which the NLC President, Adulwaheed Omar, is signatory.
The Labour Congress, in 2013, went into partnership with a private developer, Kriston Lally Nigeria Limited, to build 300,000 homes, 100,000 of which was to be commissioned in December, 2014.
But the project is yet to take off and the Labour Congress is alleging fraud by the developer.
Workers from different organizations, who subscribed to the NLC-Kriston-Lally affordable house scheme, blocked the entrance to the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress and other labour offices at the central area in Abuja, ensuring that no one went in or out.
The workers demanded to see the NLC President and after failed attempts by other members of staff to assuage them, the President came out to address the protesters.
The NLC President said that he had taken the matter head on, with promises that the subscribers, many of who were genuine, would be refunded their money.
The subscribers paid between 400, 000 to 5.5 million naira, being part payment for the housing units ranging from one bedroom apartments to three bedroom detached bungalows.
Many of them said that they took loans which they service for as high as 40,000 naira monthly.

Iran executes woman who killed her alleged rapist
Woman hanged for killing alleged rapist
Reyhaneh Jabbari, 26, was sentenced to death for the 2007 killing of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, a former employee of Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security.
The United Nations has
said she never received a fair trial. The U.S. State Department also
said there were concerns about the trial.
"There were serious
concerns with the fairness of the trial and the circumstances
surrounding this case, including reports of confessions made under
severe duress," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Saturday.
"We condemn this
morning's execution in Iran of Reyhaneh Jabbari, an Iranian woman
convicted of killing a man she said she stabbed in self-defense during a
sexual assault," Psaki said.
The United Nations and the United States had expressed concerns over the fairness of Reyhaneh Jabbari's trial.
Jabbari's execution was
originally scheduled for September 30, but was postponed. Amnesty
International said the delay may have been in response to the public
outcry against the execution.
Jabbari was convicted of murder after "a flawed investigation and unfair trial," according to Amnesty International.
The United Nations has
said Sarbandi hired Jabbari -- then a 19-year-old interior designer --
to work on his office. She stabbed him after he sexually assaulted her,
it said.
Jabbari was held in
solitary confinement without access to her lawyer and family for two
months, Amnesty International said in a statement. She was tortured
during that time, the group said.
"Amnesty International
understands that, at the outset of the investigation, Reyhaneh Jabbari
admitted to stabbing the man once in the back, but claimed she had done
so after he had tried to sexually abuse her," the rights group said.
"She also maintained that a third person in the house had been involved
in the killing. These claims, if proven, could exonerate her but are
believed never to have been properly investigated, raising many
questions about the circumstances of the killing."
Iranian Oscar-winning
director Asghar Farhadi joined scores of Iranian artists and musicians
calling for a halt to the execution. In an open letter, Farhadi asked
the victim's family to pardon her, a possibility under Iranian law.
Rights groups have criticized Iran for a surge in executions under Hassan Rouhani in his first year as president.
UK Foreign Office
Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood said he was "very concerned
and saddened" that Jabbari had been executed, especially given the
questions concerning due process in the case.
"The UN Special
Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran, Dr Ahmed Shaheed, noted that her
conviction was allegedly based on confessions made while under threat,
and the court failed to take into account all evidence into its
judgment," he said in a statement.
"Actions like these do
not help Iran build confidence or trust with the international
community. I urge Iran to put a moratorium on all executions."
According to the United
Nations, Iran has executed at least 170 people this year. Last year, it
executed more people than any other country with the exception of China,
the world's most populous nation.
U.N. Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon, speaking in July, said the death penalty has no place in
the 21st century and urged all countries to work toward its abolition.

AQUACULTURE: ROLE OF VITAMINS,MULTIVITAMINS FOR ENHANCEMENT OF IMMUNITY,GROWTH IN FISHES 2
FAT SOLUBLE VITAMINS: They dissolve in fat before they are absorbed in the bloodstream to carry out their functions. Excesses of these vitamins are stored in the liver, and are not needed every day in the diet. Examples are: vitamin A1(retinol,retinoic acid),vitamin A2(dehydroretinol),vitamin D2(ergoCalciferol),vitamin D3(cholecalcferol),vitamin E(tocopherol, tocotrienols),vitamin K1(phylioquinone),vitamin K2(menaquinone),vitamin K(menadione).
WATER SOLUBLE VITAMINS: They dissolve in water and are not stored by the body;since they are not eliminated in urine and are easily destroyed or washed out during food storage or preparation. Examples are: thiamin (vitamin B1),riboflavin(vitamin B2),niacin(vitamin B3),vitamin B6(pyridoxol,pyridoxamine)pantothenic acid(vitamin B5),biotin(vitamin H,vitamin B8),folic acid(vitamin M,vitamin B9),vitamin B12(cobalamin),choline(gossypine),vitamin c(ascorbic acid).
HOW TO BUILD A GREAT MARRIAGE
EPHESIANS 5V.22,25
VERSE 22: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands,as unto the Lord.
VERSE 25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.
If you want a great marriage, you've got to work at it everyday. The Bible gives us God's blueprint for a great marriage. 'Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show support for Christ". The husband provides leadership to his wife in the way Christ does to His church, not by domineering but by CHERISHING(LOVING). So,just as the church submits to Christ as He exercises such leadership, wives should likewise submit to their husbands.
Husbands,go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church- a love marked by GIVING,not getting.
Christ's love for the church makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything He does and says is designed to bring the best in her.....And that is how husbands ought to love their wives.
No man abuses his body, not so? Every man wants the best for his body, his life. That's what every man should seek for his wife- the best, completeness, wholesomeness;because his wife is a part of his own body.
This is why a man leaves his father and mother and cleaves(or cherishes) to his wife. No longer two, they become "one flesh".
This is a huge mystery, and i don't pretend to understand it all. The only clear thing is the way Christ treats his church;and this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife. This is the way to build a great marriage.

AQUACULTURE: ROLE OF VITAMINS,MULTIVITAMINS FOR ENHANCEMENT OF IMMUNITY,GROWTH IN FISHES 1
Vitamins are essential nutrients found in foods. They are crucial for maintaining optimal health. Vitamins are present in very small quantities in animals as they are required by the fish body in trace amounts. There are two types of vitamins:Fat soluble and Water soluble vitamins.
AQUACULTURE:Antibiotics In Your Fish: Researchers Find Traces Of Antimicrobials In Seafood, Posing Concern For Resistant Bacteria
It may not just be chicken or other types of meat that are filled
with antibiotics. New research shows that fish might be antimicrobial
culprits, too.
The authors of a new study examined shrimp, salmon, catfish, trout, tilapia, and swai from 11 different countries, and found traces of five antibiotics in the fish among the 47 antibiotics evaluated.
Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are a public health threat that could become worse in the coming years. According to the Infectious Diseases Society of America, these resistant bacteria sicken two million people in the U.S. and kill up to 23,000. Recently, President Barack Obama proposed several steps that the government would take to address the problem — but research still lacks when it comes to seafood.
“The threat of living in a post-antibiotic era cannot be avoided without revising current practices in the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, including in aquaculture,” Rolf Halden, an author of the study and a researcher at Arizona State University, said in the press release.
The researchers set to better understand to what extent antibiotics might be present in seafood, and published their work in the Journal of Hazardous Materials. Since aquaculture, also known as aquafarming, has seen dramatic growth in recent years — more people demand fish, and thus fish farmers have to increase their supply — the use of antibiotics in seafood has increased. Antibiotics help to prevent and treat pathogens that infect fish, but the downside of antibiotics in food is well-known at this point: They can build immunity in bacteria, rendering many medications ineffective if someone has an infection.
“The overuse of antibiotics, whether for human ingestion in hospitals
or for agricultural or aquacultural use, can seriously exacerbate this
problem, enriching microbes that bear particular genetic mutations,
rendering them antibiotic resistant,” the press release states. “In a
biological arms race, antibiotics applied to combat disease run the risk
of producing multi-drug resistant organisms that are increasingly
difficult to kill.”
The authors examined 27 different seafood samples, including five of the top 10 most consumed seafoods in the U.S.: shrimp, tilapia, catfish, swai, and Atlantic salmon. They discovered the presence of five antibiotics, including oxytetracycline in wild shrimp, farmed tilapia, farmed salmon and farmed trout; 4-epioxytetracycline in salmon; sulfadimethoxine in shrimp; ormetoprim in salmon, and virginiamycin in salmon that had been marketed as antibiotic-free.
While all of the amounts of antibiotics found in the fish complied with FDA regulations, the authors argue that even these relatively low levels can cause damage in the long-term by promoting resistance development. “Proper monitoring of antibiotic residues in seafood is particularly critical, due to the fact that many antibiotics used in aquaculture are also used in human medicine, for example amoxicillin and ampicillin — common therapeutics for the treatment of bacterial infections, including pneumonia and gastroenteritis,” the press release notes.
